Exhibition Arts:

It is important to create ongoing opportunities for queer youth to get their work out there! Through community partnership projects, organizing regular exhibitions (including traveling exhibitions whenever possible) and creative, prolific distribution, The People Project works in tandem with spectrum youth to artfully occupy public space.

We define “Art for social change” as the theory and action of producing art that extends meaning beyond itself. Art that addresses social and political issues, challenges popular opinion, cultivates thought, inspires actions and speaks boldly about identity, experience, power and privilege. We believe queer youth in Toronto creating art for social change can revitalize the current silent and indifferent state of the larger queer community placated by anti-discrimination laws but ignoring the persistent and vicious reality of homophobia. We also believe that because the Canadian queer community does have legal protections that it is our responsibility to queers the world over to be socially active. We recognize that all people are potential allies and it is simply a matter of sensitively and consciously unearthing the connection between their human experience and that of queer youth.
